Early Years Education - The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and OFSTED registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.
The Early Years foundation Stage supports early learning and care. Professionals work within a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality education and experiences for all children.
The EYFS also gives mums and dads the confidence that regardless of where they choose for their child's early education the commitments and principles that underpin their child's learning and development experiences shall be the same.
At Abbey Wood Grange every child is supported and guided through the EYFS with new experiences and learning opportunities. Upon starting at Abbey Wood Grange every child is given a Key Person who shall be responsible for completing development records and setting next steps.
Every child has a development record which is broken down into the seven areas of learning and development, these are what shape our educational program.
The seven areas of learning are divided into, prime and specific areas.

Our weekly planning ensures a range of activities and experiences for all ages. Every child also has a next step tailored to their individual needs to further ensure that every child is able to achieve within a stimulating environment suitable to their age and stage of development.
Every individual development record is supported by observations and photographs, highlighting the child's achievements.
A progress check between the age of 2 and 3 is written by the Key Worker and links with the Healthy Child review carried out by health visitors. The review includes a summary of progress, parents are provided with the summary and are encouraged to make comments.
